Box Score WINTER HAVEN -- Polk State Basketball began 2025 the same way it ended 2024 -- with a victory. The Eagles wrapped up non-conference play on Thursday night with a convincing 121-76 victory over West Bay Collegiate Academy.
For about 12 minutes, West Bay Collegiate traded blows with the Eagles (12-2). The Polk State lead was just 22-21 before closing the half on a 34-19 run. It led 56-40 at the break.
From there, the lead continued to grow. For the game, Polk State shot 51%. The Eagles shot 9-for-22 from deep and 24 of 30 from the foul line.
Karl Knighten Jr. led the way with a career-high 28 points on 9-for-16 shooting with three made triples. In his season debut,
Jordan Brown scored 26 points for the Eagles.
Fray Nguimbi added 21 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocks.
Cole White and
Will Stallworth also scored in double figures with 15 and 11 points, respectively.
Kellen Cashman led Polk State with eight assists and three steals. Bryce Hinson led the Hammerheads with 26 points.
With non-conference play in the rear view, Polk State can equal last season's win total on Saturday when it begins Citrus Conference play at Miami Dade College. Tip time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
