Polk Preview (Oct. 6, 2025)

WINTER HAVEN – Fresh off its first Citrus Conference win of the season, Polk State Volleyball will get their longest break of the conference season. Polk State Soccer, on the other hand, begins October with a pair of road matches.

The teams will combine for three matches this week. Only Polk State Volleyball will be at home.

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m.: Polk State (6-4-1, 1-2-1 Region 8) at No. 20 Eastern Florida State College (6-3-1, 0-3 Region 8)

PREVIEW

• Since a 6-1-1 start, Polk State has dropped three straight matches – all on the road. During that stretch, the Eagles have managed just one total goal. The Eagles are just 1-4 on the road this season.

• This week will end a stretch of seven straight road matches for Polk State. It hasn't played at home since Sept. 16.

• Madelyn English scored her first career goal last time out as the Eagles fell on Sept. 28 at Miami Dade College, 3-1. The goal snapped a streak of more than 250 minutes without a goal.

• Sophomore Janessa Crespo and freshman Marie Narewski remain among the FCSAA scoring leaders. Crespo ranks first in assists (9), third in points (21) and fourth in goals (6). Narewski ranks third in goals (8), fourth in points (20) and fifth in assists (4).

• Wednesday's match between Polk State and Eastern Florida State College will feature the top two leaders in Region 8 in saves. Eastern Florida's Lira Adamski leads the region with 53 saves. Polk State's Ashley Miller ranks second with 45 saves.

• Eastern Florida's Avery Bracher leads Region 8 with 10 goals and 25 points. Only Crespo has more assists.

• With a win on Wednesday night, the Eagles would remain mathematically alive for a share of the Region 8 regular season title. It would also assure itself that it would not finish last in the region.

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m.: Hillsborough Community College (8-9, 2-4 Citrus Conference) at Polk State College (6-10, 1-5 Citrus Conference)

PREVIEW

• Polk State upset No. 17 Eastern Florida State College last week in five sets for its first Citrus Conference win under Head Coach Jessica Beal and its first win over a nationally ranked team since 2023 when it beat Daytona State College in the FCSAA Tournament.

• In the upset win over the Titans, Alexia Ortiz set a season-high with 15 kills. Ortiz ranks second in the FCSAA, averaging 0.62 service aces per set.
