WINTER HAVEN – It was a rough week in Polk State Athletics. Both Polk State Volleyball and Polk State Soccer were defeated in consecutive conference matches.

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m.: No. 16 Eastern Florida State College (11-6, 2-2 Citrus Conference) at Polk State College (5-9, 0-4 Citrus Conference) – Dig Pink

Saturday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m.: Santa Fe College (8-9, 0-5 Citrus Conference) at Polk State (5-9, 0-4 Citrus Conference)

PREVIEW

• Polk State took its first set in Citrus Conference play with a 25-18 victory in the first in Saturday's 3-1 loss at Daytona State College. It was the largest margin of victory for Polk State in a Citrus Conference set since the 2023 FCSAA Tournament – also against Daytona State.

• Alexia Ortiz set a season-high with 15 kills at Daytona State on Saturday. Addison Phillippe's 37 assists were the most for the freshman during a conference match.

• For Wednesday's match against Eastern Florida State College, Polk State will hold its annual “Dig Pink” contest. Founded in 2005, Dig Pink is an annual event done in conjunction with the Side-Out Foundation, which helps “people living with metastatic breast cancer see more tomorrows.”

• On Saturday, Eastern Florida State College became the first team to take a set from No. 1 Florida SouthWestern State College in Citrus Conference play as the Titans dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker. Eastern Florida is led by Leyre Arroyo Sanchez, who leads the FCSAA with 192 total kills. Her 3.49 kills per set average is good for fourth in the FCSAA.

• Polk State hopes to knock off Eastern Florida on Wednesday, but it and Santa Fe College are the two remaining teams without a Citrus Conference win. Those teams will meet on Saturday. Santa Fe is led by Madison Howard, who ranks sixth in the FCSAA, averaging 3.06 digs per set.
