Box Score WINTER HAVEN — After overcoming a four-run deficit on Tuesday, Polk State Baseball let a three-run lead slip away on Thursday. The Eagles dropped the series opener against Daytona State College, 11-6.
Mason Mojica's two-run double highlighted a three-run third inning as Polk State (20-14, 10-6 Citrus Conference) extended the lead to 4-1. The Falcons answered with four runs in the fourth but
Zach Lester's solo homer in the bottom of the inning tied the game, 5-5.
From there, it was all Daytona State. Ian DeVos' RBI single jumpstarted a two-run fifth as the Falcons went ahead for good. They added two runs in each of the final two innings.
Mojica finished with three RBIs.
Kenay Acevedo and
Josh Cruz each finished with two hits. Lester and Acevedo each scored twice.
The teams will wrap up the regular season series on Saturday with a doubleheader in Daytona Beach. Game times are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
