Box Score LAKELAND — Polk State Soccer faced little resistance in its season opener. The Eagles rolled to an 8-0 victory over Millennia Atlantic University on Friday.
Seven different Eagles scored goals for Polk State in the mercy-rule win. Six players recorded assists.
Polk State (1-0) dominated from the start. The Eagles scored three goals in the first half before netting five in the second.
Janessa Crespo led the attack with two goals and an assist.
Paula Cortijo was the only other sophomore to score a goal.
Laura Sofia Males and
Marie Narewski each notched their first career goal and assist.
Also finding the net for Polk State were
Jacquelyn Spear,
Alayna Dial and
Agustina Carnero.
Zachtaevia Grant,
Natasha Muchakati and
Kaylin Allen added assists.
The only two shots on goal of the afternoon for Millennia Atlantic were saved by
Ashley Miller.
Alexandra Van Lare also saw time in goal as the two freshmen combined for the shutout.
The Eagles are slated to open the season with seven straight home matches. The next one comes on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. against Monroe University.
