Box Score 2 NEW PORT RICHEY — Polk State Volleyball's first road trip of the year was a heartbreaking one. The Eagles dropped a pair of five-set contests on Saturday.
Polk State opened the day with a 3-2 loss to host Pasco-Hernando State College. After a 25-23 win in the opening set for Polk State, the Bobcats bounced back to take the next two sets by identical 25-16 scores.
Polk State was able to squeak out a 26-24 win in the fourth set. The fifth was tied at 13 before Pasco-Hernando scored the final two points to pick up the narrow victory.
Marina Santos led Polk State with 16 kills and eight service aces to go with 17 digs.
Alexia Ortiz narrowly missed a triple-double, finishing with 11 kills, 13 digs and nine assists.
Sarah Boe Soerenson and
Addison Phillippe each finished with 19 digs. Phillippe recorded a match-high 31 assists.
Alanis Colon Albalad led the Bobcats with 14 kills. Sydney Freyer added a match-high 25 digs in the Pasco-Hernando win.
Polk State (0-3) fell to end the day to Indian River State College in the second match, 3-2. Polk State won the first two sets but was unable to close out the match. The Pioneers won the final three sets, closing things out with a 15-11 win in the fifth set.
Phillippe again led the Eagles with 33 assists.
Ella Langstrom finished with seven kills for the second match in a row.Â
Polk State will have to wait until Friday before it takes the court again. The Eagles will return home to host the University of South Carolina Sumter.
