Polk State Volleyball caps Eastern Florida Tournament with consecutive sweeps

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MELBOURNE — After a pair of losses on Friday, Polk State Volleyball bounced back in a big way. The Eagles capped the Eastern Florida Tournament with a pair of sweeps on Saturday.

Polk State opened the day with its first straight-set win of the year and most convincing victory of the season against the University of South Carolina Lancaster. After taking the first set 25-19, the Eagles rolled to a sweep by taking the final two sets by 25-16 and 25-12 scores, respectively.

Alexia Ortiz ultimately put the match away with a thunderous kill in the third set. Ortiz filled up the box score for Polk State, finishing with eight kills, 11 digs and 10 assists.

Natalie Aasen added seven kills in the win and served during a late 5-0 run by the Eagles. Isabella Ramos paced Polk State with 13 digs to go with six assists. Addison Phillippe finished with a match-high 13 assists to go with six kills.

The sweep of USC Lancaster's reign as the most lopsided victory of the season for Polk State would last just a few hours. The Eagles capped a perfect day with a 3-0 sweep of Andrew College.

The Eagles didn't allow more than 13 points in any set against the Fighting Tigers. Polk State capped the day with a 25-13, 25-12, 25-5 victory. Rezzan Guner's kill capped the sweep and the most decisive set victory of the season for the Eagles (4-5).

Ella Langstrom and Wiktoria Soremska each finished with six kills. Ortiz had six service aces to go with nine assists. Phillippe led the Eagles with 20 assists.

After a 2-2 stay in Melbourne, Polk State will face Andrew again on Thursday in Winter Haven at 5 p.m. It will be the Eagles' final non-conference match of the regular season. Admission is free with the donation of a food item to support Talbot House Ministries.
