Box Score KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Polk State Soccer will leave the state of Tennessee with a victory. The Eagles used a late goal to top Pellissippi State Community College on Saturday evening, 1-0.
It wasn't her first time but
Melissa Del Valle came through in the clutch in the 78th minute. On a breakaway, Del Valle outraced defenders before slipping one past goalkeeper Sameera Jaffrey for the lone goal of the match.
Aleyshka Orellano,
Jessica Bailey, and
Madison Caustic each finished with three shots for the Eagles (7-4-1). Polk State held a 12-9 edge in total shots.
In goal,
Ryann Stephens picked up her first career shutout for the Eagles. Jaffrey finished with five saves for the Panthers in the loss.
"I am so proud of our team," Head Coach Dee Shivraman said. "To be on the road and to persevere through all of our injuries, we played a fantastic and intelligent match. Ryann in goal and our defense with Graycie (Kidwell), Kiana (Kropp), Edjenie (Joseph), and (
Kuhle Madlokazi) was just fantastic."
With the win, Polk State snaps a three-match winless streak. The Eagles have added a match for Monday against United International College (B) and will finish the regular season with home matches in back-to-back days. Monday's match is scheduled for 2 p.m.
