Box Score WINTER HAVEN -- Ten different Polk State Baseball players recorded a hit on Saturday as the Eagles held off Daytona State College for their first win of the 2023 season, 10-8.
Travis Stapleton's double served as the lone extra-base hit for the Eagles (1-5). In addition to the season-high 14 hits, however, Polk State also drew eight walks.
After scoring three runs in the second to take its first lead, Polk State went ahead for good with two runs in the third. The Eagles added three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
Ray Bermudez,
Evan Wainman, and
Aaron Stelogeannis all had a pair of hits in the victory. Polk State could have put up an even bigger number on the scoreboard, but left 13 men on base.
Sam Duvall allowed just one earned run on two hits and two walks in 3.1 innings of relief to pick up the win.
Ryan Combs worked out of trouble in the ninth to close things out.
Polk State will have a busy week upcoming with five games. The Eagles will remain home to take on Seminole State College of Florida on Monday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.Â
