Box Score CLEARWATER — Polk State Baseball's offense came to life late as the Eagles pulled away from St. Petersburg College for their most lopsided Suncoast Conference win of the year on Friday, 10-2.
Evan Koehler had another stellar start for Polk State (29-17, 11-6 Suncoast) on the mound. At the plate,
Pierce Glading and
Aris Rivera each finished with three RBIs.
Glading's RBI groundout in the fourth inning put the Eagles ahead for good, 2-1. An inning later, Glading plated two runs with a single.
Koehler threw the first complete game of the season for the Eagles, yielding two runs, one earned, on five hits. Koehler struck out just two but did not walk a batter.
Polk State didn't pull away until late. Up 4-2 in the eighth, Rivera drove home his first run with an RBI single.
The Eagles blew things open with five runs in the ninth. Rivera and
Roberto Odor each came up with two-run knocks in the frame.
Rivera finished with three hits in the victory.
Ray Bermudez was a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI for Polk State. Catcher
Travis Stapleton added a pair of hits.
Prior to Friday's contest, each of Polk State's 10 Suncoast victories had come by three runs or less. The Eagles had lost in each of their two previous trips to St. Petersburg.
The teams will meet again on Saturday as the scene shifts to Winter Haven. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
