Box Score BRADENTON — Little was on the line for Polk State Baseball during Wednesday night's regular season finale and the final score suggested as much. In a matchup of FCSAA Tournament-bound teams, State College of Florida-Manatee rolled past the Eagles in seven innings, 14-1.
Polk State (32-21, 14-10 Suncoast Conference) scored its only run in the first.
J'Quann Smith singled to open the game before coming around to score on a productive out from
Travis Stapleton.
From there, however, it was all Manatees. After scoring two runs in the first inning, State College of Florida added three in the third and blew things open with six in the fourth. SCF added three more in the sixth.
Jaydon Bishop took his first loss of the season for the Eagles, allowing three earned runs in 2.2 innings of work. At the plate, Polk State managed just four hits.
Evan Wainman and
Roberto Odor each finished 1-for-2 in the loss.
The Manatees won six of the eight meetings against Polk State this year. Four of those wins were run rule victories.
The Eagles will have more than a week off before opening the FCSAA Tournament on the road against the Panhandle Conference champion -- either Northwest Florida State College or Tallahassee Community College. The best-of-three regional will begin on May 5.
