Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE — Polk State Baseball will settle for just one win at Lake Myrtle Park for the Florida JUCO Early Bird Kickoff. The Eagles closed the two-day event with a pair of losses on Saturday.
Polk State (1-3) dropped contests to South Florida State College and Palm Beach State College.
In the opener on Saturday, the offense got started too late for Polk State in a 6-3 loss to South Florida State. Two of the three runs came in the sixth inning of the seven-inning contest.
A solo home run from
Evan Wainman in the second inning got the Eagles on the board. Brandon Vargas and Marlon Bowen each homered for the Panthers.
Greg Pettay,
Aaron Stelogeannis, and
Pierce Glading each reached base twice for the Eagles.
Trevor Caldwell took the loss for Polk State.
Polk State dropped the second game to Palm Beach State, 10-4. Offensively, however, the Eagles started strong.
Wainman followed an RBI triple from
Damion Kenealy with an RBI single of his own. Freshman starting pitcher
Wade Johnson took the loss, allowing four runs in three innings, but only one of the four was earned. A four-run fourth from Palm Beach State proved to be too much for the Eagles to overcome.

Liam O'Neil went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the defeat.
Isaiah Baez had three hits, including a home run for Palm Beach. The Panthers finished with 15 hits.
