Box Score WINTER HAVEN —
Aaron Stelogeannis used the long ball and the bunt to help Polk State Baseball top Westchester Community College on Tuesday night. Stelogeannis squeezed home the winning run with a walk-off bunt single in a 9-8 victory as part of the RussMatt Invitational.
With the score knotted 8-8,
Evan Wainman led off the bottom of the ninth with a double before moving to third on
Liam O'Neil's line drive to right field. Stelogeannis then laid down a perfect bunt down the first-base line to give the Eagles (17-14) their second walk-off win in eight days.
It was a back-and-forth offensive affair early. After the Vikings pushed across a run in the first, Aris Rivers's sacrifice fly tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Polk State then answered a run in the second and two in the third by Westchester with six runs in the bottom of the third.
O'Neil's three-run double gave Polk State its first lead of the night, 5-4.
Kelsen Johnson followed with a two-run single later in the inning.
After the Vikings pulled to within a run, Stelogeannis lifted a solo homer to left in the seventh to extend the lead to 8-6. Westchester used a pair of bases-loaded walks in the eighth to draw even before providing the heroics in the bottom of the ninth.
JT Long, the seventh and final arm for Polk to pitch, earned the win by tossing a scoreless inning and a third, allowing just one hit and striking out one. Long improved to 3-0 on the season.
The Eagles are set to return to Citrus Conference play this Thursday in Ocala for the series opener versus College of Central Florida. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
