Box Score ST. PETERSBURG — Polk State Baseball is now a season-high 11 games over .500. The bats came to life in the middle innings as the Eagles rolled past St. Petersburg College on Friday, 13-6.
Trailing 2-1 after three innings, Polk State (29-18, 15-10 Suncoast Conference) went ahead for good with four runs in the fourth. After Damion Keanealy tied the game with a sharp RBI single to centerfield, a hustling
Aris Rivera gave the Eagles their first lead with a two-run infield single.
Greg Pettay capped the scoring in the inning by chopping an RBI single to right field.
Polk State seized control with six runs in the fifth. A two-run home run by Kenealy highlighted the inning.
After tossing a complete game at St. Petersburg last season, Polk State starting pitcher
Evan Koehler wasn't quite as sharp on Friday but gave the Eagles six solid innings. Koehler allowed four earned runs on 10 hits while striking out three to earn the win.
Wade Johnson allowed just a run over the final three innings to pick up the save.
Kenealy went 5-for-6 with three runs scored and three RBIs. At the top of the order,
Roberto Odor and
Aaron Stelogeannis each had three hits while combining for five runs.
Pettay, Rivera, and
Evan Wainman each finished with two hits. Pettay and
Pierce Glading each added two RBIs.
Friday's contest was originally scheduled for Thursday but pushed back as a result of inclement weather. The teams will wrap up the season series on Saturday with a doubleheader in Winter Haven. Game times are scheduled for 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
