Bats fall silent as Polk State Baseball is swept in Sanford

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SANFORD — The bats just never could get going on Saturday for Polk State Baseball. The Eagles were swept in a doubleheader by Seminole State College of Florida.

Despite solid pitching, Polk State (32-21, 17-13 Citrus Conference) managed just one total run for the day. The Eagles dropped the contests by scores of 4-0 and 4-1.

After an 8-1 start, pitcher Aiden Butler took his second straight loss for Polk State. Butler allowed four runs in 4.1 innings. The Raiders scored a run in the first, two in the second, and another in the fourth.

Polk State managed just four hits in the seven-inning contest — all singles. The top three in the order of Roberto Odor, Aaron Stelogeannis, and Damion Kenealy each went 1-for-3. Greg Pettay added a hit in the loss.

Wade Johnson retired five of the six batters he faced in 1.2 scoreless innings. He added two strikeouts.

In the second game, Seminole State broke through off Polk State starter Trevor Caldwell with two runs in the fourth to break the scoreless tie. The Raiders added runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

After 14 straight scoreless innings to start the day, Polk State scored its lone run in the top of the eighth as Kenealy singled home Odor. Jordan Thomas finished 2-for-4.

Polk State left nine men on base in the second game. A Stelogeannis double served as the only extra-base hit of the day.

Caldwell took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in five innings while striking out seven. The Raiders were able to get a run off Ryan Combs in the sixth. JT Long threw two innings of scoreless relief to close the day for Polk State.

Following Saturday's losses, Polk State is in a four-way tie for fourth place in the Citrus Conference.
