TAMPA — Polk State Baseball put an end to its four-game losing streak in resounding fashion on Tuesday night. The Eagles scored early and often in a 17-2 run-rule victory over University of Tampa (B).
Polk State set the tone with an eight-run first inning, sending 12 men to the plate.
Bradyn Potter and
Marvin Montenegro each had two hits in the inning. Montenegro capped the inning with a two-run double.
Polk State scored in every inning except the second, needing just seven innings to secure the win. The Eagles finished with 20 hits.
In total, 11 different players had a hit for Polk State (12-8).
Jack Muller and
Kenay Acevedo each went 3-for-4. Muller finished with three runs scored and two RBIs. Acevedo had three RBIs and scored twice. Montenegro and
Kevin Brunet also each had two hits and two RBIs.
On the mound, four hurlers saw action for Polk State. Starter
Caden Jensen allowed just a run in three innings of work while fanning four.
Anthony Schatz followed with a scoreless inning.
Jacob Amerman retired all six batters he faced over two innings of relief.
The win serves as Polk State's fourth run-rule victory of the season. The Eagles will resume Citrus Conference play at home on Thursday against Seminole State College of Florida.
