Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN – Polk State Softball closed non-conference play with a bang on Thursday. In a pair of contests against out-of-state competition, the Eagles rolled to run-rule victories.
Batting as the visiting team, Polk State opened the day with an easy 11-0 win over Triton College in just five innings.

Grace Adamonis and
Jaelin Grant combined for a four-hit shutout – all singles – in the circle.
The Eagles scored runs in each of the first three innings, which included a six-run third.
Ciana Vargas got the scoring started in the top of the third inning with a two-run single
Calonnie Holmes followed with a two-run double.
Lacey Osborne capped the scoring with a two-run double.
As a team, Polk State finished with 10 hits. Osborne was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Holmes and
Kirsten Aldridge each had two hits and two runs scored. Vargas also scored twice. She and Aldridge finished with two RBIs apiece.
In the second game, Polk State (9-15) again needed just five innings to complete the victory. It rolled past Heartland Community College, 11-2.
Osborne set the tone with a three-run home run in the first inning. Heartland was able to get back into the game with a pair of runs in the second to cut the deficit to 3-2, but the Eagles erupted for eight runs in the fourth inning.
Polk State opened the inning with six straight hits, which included a three-run homer from Holmes. After Aldridge's RBI double extended the lead to 7-2,
Emma Kaylor belted a grand slam for her first collegiate home run.
In the circle,
Avery Wende went the distance to pick up the win. She allowed just two runs on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Osborne finished with three hits for the second straight game, finishing with two runs scored. Vargas went 3-for-3 with a run scored. Holmes and
Shyla de Lautour each had two hits and two runs scored in the wins.
The wins conclude Polk State's participation in The Spring Games at the Winter Haven Diamond Plex and its non-conference schedule. The Eagles will remain home for a Saturday doubleheader against No. 3 Florida SouthWestern State College.
