Box Score WINTER HAVEN — Pitching and
Bradyn Potter were the stories on Tuesday night as Polk State Baseball handled University of Tampa (B), 7-2.
Seven different Polk State pitchers combined to allow just two unearned runs on six hits with 14 strikeouts. Starter
Caden Jensen set the tone with five strikeouts over two scoreless innings.
At the plate, Potter got the offense going in the bottom of the third with a two-run home run to break a scoreless tie. After
Marvin Montenegro singled in
Fabian Gavalo in the fourth with an RBI single, the Eagles (19-13) blew things open with three runs in the sixth.
Potter and
Jack Muller each came through with RBI singles in the inning.
Kustarr Webb was also credited with an RBI after drawing a bases-loaded walk.
Kevin Brunet capped the scoring for Polk State with a solo home run in the seventh.
Down 7-0 after seven, Tampa added unearned runs in each of the final two innings to break up the shutout. Like Jensen,
Jason Sawyer threw two scoreless innings in the win.
Vincent Antuna and
Anthony Schatz each tossed scoreless frames.
With the bat, Potter finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Muller added two hits of his own. Gavalo scored twice.
After a big Citrus Conference series win over then No. 22 State College of Florida, the Eagles will dive back into conference play on Thursday when they visit Indian River State College. The contest in Fort Pierce is scheduled for 5 p.m.
