WINTER HAVEN — Polk State Baseball used a patient approach at the plate to roll past Warner University JV on Tuesday night in seven innings, 15-3.
The Eagles (21-15) needed just eight hits to complete the run-rule victory. Polk State took advantage of 10 walks, five wild pitches and three hit batters.
All of the offense for Warner came early. The Royals used a pair of early unearned runs to take a 3-2 lead. Polk State went ahead for good with four runs in the bottom of the second inning.
After
Jack Muller walked to tie the game,
Bradyn Potter scored on a passed ball to put Polk State in front for the first time and to stay. Polk State scored in every inning except the third.
Following a two-run first and four-run second, the Eagles scored two runs apiece in the fourth and sixth innings and five in the fifth.
Marvin Montenegro powered the offense, going 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored and four RBIs.
Porter finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Muller finished with three RBIs.
Kustarr Webb doubled and drove in two.
Fabian Gavalo scored twice.
On the mound,
Vincent Antuna,
Anthony Schatz and
Hayden Porter combined to throw five scoreless innings of relief to end the game. Schatz allowed just a walk and no hits in two innings while fanning three to pick up the win.
Tuesday's contest serves as the final game for Polk State against non-NJCAA competition this season. The Eagles will resume Citrus Conference play on Thursday at home against Hillsborough College.
