WINTER HAVEN – In a pivotal Citrus Conference contest on Saturday, Polk State Baseball freshman pitcher
Ronald Causby put forward arguably his best effort of the season. Others have since taken notice.
For his efforts in Saturday's 5-0 win over Santa Fe College, Causby was named the FCSAA Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. After dropping the first two games of the pivotal series against the Saints, Causby gave the Eagles six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and no walks while recording eight strikeouts.
With the victory, Polk State improved to 25-18 and evened its Citrus Conference record at 12-12. It was Polk State's first shutout win of the season.
A 6-foot-2, 170-pound right-hander from Seminole, Causby improved to 3-4 on the year with the victory. For the year, the right-hander ranks third for Polk State in wins, innings pitched (44.1) and strikeouts (40). Causby is also the lone Polk State hurler to throw a complete game this season.
A Saturday starter, Causby will be a key piece for the Eagles moving forward as they eye a fifth postseason appearance in six years. Causby joins catcher
Marvin Montenegro as the only Polk State players to earn FCSAA weekly recognition this season.
