Box Score 2 RANGER, Texas – Polk State Volleyball was unable to pick up a win on the first day of the Wrangler/Ranger Roundup, co-hosted by Cisco College and Ranger College, but the Eagles did score their first set victory of the season.
Polk State outscored Seward County Community College in the first match of the day, but that wasn't enough to secure the victory. The Eagles dropped a five-set heartbreaker, 3-2.
After Polk State rolled to a 25-10 win in the opening set, the Saints bounced back with 25-18 and 25-20 victories in the next two sets. Polk State was able to force a decisive fifth set with an emphatic 25-15 win in the fourth, but Seward County prevailed 15-11 in the fifth. An error ultimately ended the contest.
Mariana Castano led the Eagles with nine kills to go with eight digs.
Kenzington Hyde and
Dublin Fitzgerald added eight and seven kills, respectively.
Jasmine Mahoney finished with a team-high 24 assists.
Ana Martinez paced Polk State with 11 digs.
Polk State concluded the day with a straight-set loss to Cisco College, 3-0. The Eagles fell by scores of 25-19, 25-22, 25-16.
Hyde led the Eagles with six kills. Martinez added nine digs. Mahoney tallied 11 assists.
Polk State will try to finish the Wrangler/Ranger Roundup strong on Saturday. It concludes its trip to the Lone Star State with contests against Arizona Western College and co-host Ranger College.
