Box Score WINTER HAVEN – A seven-run third inning turned Tuesday night's contest into a laugher as Polk State Baseball ran its winning streak to three with a 16-2 seven-inning rout of Webber International University (B).
After pushing two runs across in the first, 10 men came to the plate for the Eagles (3-5) during the big third inning.
Damion Kenealy and
Aaron Stelogeannis each recorded RBI singles during the frame while
Cole Griffith, in his season debut, drove in another by drawing a bases-loaded walk.
One night after putting Polk State ahead for good with a two-run homer, Piece Glading delivered with a two-run single in the third inning before scoring on a wild pitch. From there, the Eagles would tack runs on. Polk State scored three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth.
Patience at the plate was again a theme as Polk State drew eight walks in the victory.
Travis Stapleton finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Stapleton and
J'Quann Smith each scored three runs in the win. Every starter in the Polk State lineup came around to score on Tuesday night.
The Eagles' pitching staff took a shutout into the final inning before Webber broke through with a pair of runs. Starter
Trevor Caldwell struck out eight batters while yielding just two hits and one walk in four shutout innings to pick up the win.
Polk State will hit the road for the first time in more than a week when it heads south to Avon Park to take on South Florida State College on Wednesday night. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
