Box Score WINTER HAVEN — It wasn't a thing of beauty but Polk State Baseball continued its winning ways on Tuesday. The Eagles picked up their eighth win in nine games with a 5-1 victory over Warner University (B).
The Royals drew first blood with a run in the first but the Eagles bled Warner to death with small ball during a four-run third. None of the four runs came on a hit.
After
Aaron Stelogeannis and
Liam O'Neil drew back-to-back walks to give Polk State the lead, the third run of the inning came on a wild pitch.
Pierce Glading added an RBI groundout later in the frame.
Eight different Polk State pitchers combined to allow just an unearned run on six hits with 15 strikeouts.
Jake Echols worked a scoreless fifth to pick up the win.
Polk State added to its lead in the fourth on an RBI single by
Nicholas Upperman.
Greg Pettay and
Roberto Odor each finished with two hits for Polk State. Pettay scored twice in the victory.
The last real threat from Warner came in the eighth when it put two runners in scoring position with nobody out.
Zane Wright used a pair of strikeouts to get out of the jam unscathed.
Now a season-high five games over .500, the Eagles look to stay hot as they resume Citrus Conference play on Thursday at Daytona State College. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
