Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN — Nothing came easy on for Polk State Baseball on Saturday, but the Eagles won another Citrus Conference series. After dropping the first game of a doubleheader against St. Petersburg College, Polk State rallied to salvage the split in walk-off fashion.
Pierce Glading capped the day with a walk-off infield single in the 11th inning as the Eagles won the nightcap, 4-3. Glading's heroics were aided by a tricky hop that ate up the St. Pete shortstop.
Polk State (30-19, 16-11 Citrus) drew first blood on
Kelsen Johnson's sacrifice fly in the second inning. St. Pete took the lead in the fourth on Diego Aponte's two-run double. The Titans added to their lead in the seventh on Carlos Sanchez's solo home run.
Trailing 3-1, the Eagles drew even in the bottom of the seventh on
Aris Rivera's two-run single up the middle.
JT Long entered with two runners on and one out in the eighth but worked out of the jam and proceeded to work 3.2Â scoreless innings to pick up the win.
Polk State had opportunities in the ninth and 10th innings to walk off but couldn't cash in until the 11th. Glading finished 3-for-6 with a run scored and the winning RBI.
Aaron Stelogeannis added three hits and scored two of the four runs for the Eagles. Rivera and
Evan Wainman each recorded two hits.
St. Pete took the first game, a seven-inning contest, by a 6-2 score. The Eagles took an early 2-0 lead with RBI singles from
Damion Kenealy and Wainman in the first.
The Titans went ahead for good with five runs in the fourth. Polk State was held scoreless over the final six innings.
