Box Score TAMPA — After a rough weekend, Polk State used a big inning on Tuesday night to get back on track with a 10-7 win over the University of Tampa (B).
Tied 4-4 through seven innings, the Eagles (25-17) went ahead for good with six runs in the eighth inning. The Spartans made things interesting with three runs in the ninth but
Ryan Combs was able to close things out to pick up the win.
After a quiet Saturday in which the Eagles managed just four total runs while dropping both games of a doubleheader at Indian River State College, Polk State finished with 13 hits on Tuesday in Tampa. That included four doubles.
The latter part of the order came up big for Polk State with No. 5 hitter
Evan Wainman leading the way with three hits. He was followed by
Kelsen Johnson,
Greg Pettay,
Pierce Glading, and
Jordan Thomas, who each had two hits. Glading finished with three RBIs in the victory while Thomas added two.
Six pitchers saw action for Polk State.
Jake Echols struck out the side during a 1-2-3 seventh to pick up the win.
With the win, Polk State has now won 13 of its last 16 games. The Eagles will return home to resume Citrus Conference play on Thursday against Eastern Florida State College.
