LAKELAND – Polk State Soccer has already eclipsed last season's win total. One of the bigger reasons for its early success is the play of a freshman from Germany.

Marie Narewski is Eagle of the Month for September, selected by the Polk State Athletics Eagle of the Month Committee as Polk State College's top athletic performer.

During the month of September, Narewski registered six goals and three assists in nine matches. Perhaps as impressive as her goal total was when she scored them.

In the Region 8 opener against Miami Dade College on Sept. 11, Narewski found the back of the net in the 87th minute as the Eagles salvaged a 1-1 draw. Against then No. 6 Eastern Florida State College on Sept. 16, Narewski again scored in the 87th minute – this time the winner – as the Eagles won 3-2 for their first victory over a nationally ranked team in three years.

Narewski opened the month with a goal in a 4-1 win over Webber International University JV on Sept. 3. In the process, she became the first Polk State freshman to score a goal in each of her first three career matches since Raisa Lugo in 2021. Narewski also set a career-high with six points – two goals and two assists – in the Eagles' 9-1 victory over Saint Leo University JV on Sept. 18.

As the Eagles begin the final month of the regular season and chase a Region 8 title, Narewski will play a vital role. She enters the month of October ranked second in Region 8 with eight goals and third in both points (20) and assists (4).
