Box Score SANFORD – The opener of a pivotal three-game Citrus Conference series did not go as Polk State Baseball had hoped on Thursday. The Eagles were run-ruled in seven innings by Seminole State College of Florida, 11-3.

Erwin Cabassa put Seminole State ahead for good and got the scoring started with a three-run home run in the first inning. Through three innings, that lead doubled to 6-0.

Polk State (26-24, 13-15 Citrus Conference) scored all three of its runs in the fourth. Simon Scharff's two-run double got the Eagles on the board. Polk State cut the lead to 6-3 a batter later when Jordan Thomas grounded into a double play.

The Raiders answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth before putting things away with three in the sixth. Outside of the top of the fourth, not much went right for Polk State. Double plays killed rallies in both the fourth and fifth innings.

Starting pitcher Zane Wright took the loss for Polk State. Scharff, Kevin Brunet, and Zach Lester each finished with two hits for the Eagles in the loss.

Since a 9-3 start to Citrus Conference play, the Eagles have now lost 12 of their last 16 conference games. They'll try to turn things around on Saturday when they host Seminole State for a doubleheader. Game times are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
