Box Score FORT PIERCE — In the second non-conference game of the season between Citrus Conference foes Polk State Baseball and Indian River State College, the Eagles rolled to a top-15 road win on Tuesday. Polk State breezed to an 8-1 victory over the 15th-ranked Pioneers.
Polk State (12-10) wasted little time seizing control. The Eagles scored seven runs over the first four innings.
After
Kevin Brunet singled home the game's first run,
Liam O'Neil slapped a two-run double to right to cap a three-run first inning. In the second inning,
Zach Lester added a two-run double of his own.
Polk State added two more in the fifth. After Brunet's second RBI single of the night extended the lead to 6-0,
Kustarr Webb scored on a wild pitch.
On the mound,
Jackson Graden shined in his first start of the year. The sophomore was perfect in his three innings, striking out two.
Roman Corinti,
Zane Wright,
Jason Sawyer, and
Vincent Antuna combined to throw five scoreless innings out of the Polk State bullpen.
Indian River State got on the board with a run in the fourth. The Eagles scored their final run of the night in the eighth when
Josh Cruz drew a bases-loaded walk.
Polk State finished with nine hits to four for the Pioneers. Webb scored three runs in the win.
Andy Schroeder scored twice.
With its first win over a ranked opponent under its belt, Polk State will resume Citrus Conference play at home on Thursday against Miami Dade College. Start time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
