WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - In its first home doubleheader of the season, Polk State Baseball split with Lake-Sumter State College Lake. The Eagles saw their four-game winning streak snapped via a 6-2 loss in game one before bouncing back with a resounding 15-6 victory in game two to clinch the season series 2-1.

GAME ONE:

The Eagles (8-6) struggled to move runners throughout the contest, hitting .200 (2-for-10) with runners in scoring position, including 0-for-2 with the bases loaded.

A
Greg Pettay RBI single in the bottom of the fourth put the Eagles ahead 2-1. However, the Lake Hawks (3-8-1) had an offensive flurry in the top of the sixth, plating five runs on five hits to open up a 6-2 lead.

Sophomore pitcher
Evan Koehler fell to 0-2 on the season after allowing four earned runs on five hits, walking one, and striking out three in 5.2 innings tossed.
Aiden Alvarez closed out the seven-inning game with 1.1 innings pitched with two runs allowed and a punch-out.

GAME TWO:

It was the Eagles using the big inning to their advantage in the second game. Polk State scored nine runs on eight hits in the bottom of the third to grow their lead to 10-0.
Evan Wainman cleared the loaded bases with a double to left center, while
Jordan Thomas drove in two more with a triple to left center in the frame.

Aaron Stelogeannis belted a triple of his own to centerfield in the bottom of the fifth which scored two and grew the Eagles' advantage to 14-1. A
Pierce Glading rip up the middle scored Stelogeannis in the next at-bat to make it 15-1 in favor of Polk.

The Lake Hawks went on to score five unanswered runs but that is all Lake-Sumter could mount in the comeback attempt.

Sophomore southpaw
Trevor Caldwell impressed in his start for Polk, allowing just one earned run in five innings, while walking two and fanning seven batters.

Jackson Graden,
JT Long, and
Damion Kenealy each tossed a scoreless frame to close out the contest for the Eagles.

Wainman finished the contest with four runs batted in, while Stelogeannis slotted in three.

The Eagles remain at home on Tuesday for a single contest against Seminole State College of Florida. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
