Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN — Pasco-Hernando State College has swept this season's series against Polk State Baseball. The Bobcats accomplished the feat with a doubleheader sweep at Bing Tyus Yard on Saturday.
Polk State dropped the first game of the day, 10-5. The Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on an RBI single from
Derek Fermaint and an RBI walk from
Simon Scharff.
Things went sideways for Polk State in the third inning as the Bobcats pushed across six unearned runs.
JT Long took the loss despite not allowing an earned run.
After the Eagles got a run back in the fifth, Pasco-Hernando put it away with four runs in the sixth.
Hayden Testerman,
Kenay Acevedo, and
Andre Mason each finished with two hits in the loss.Â
Polk State outhit the Bobcats 10-9 in the loss. Bryce Habuda, Bradon Durfee, and Juan Lopez each finished with two RBIs for Pasco-Hernando.
The Eagles dropped the second game, 13-5.
Polk State (3-6) drew even at 2-2 with two runs in the second on a fielder's choice off the bat of
Zach Lester. Not known for his speed, a hustling
Liam O'Neil scored all the way from second.
The Bobcats scored five straight runs to go in front for good. Polk State tried to make things interesting with three runs in the eighth, but Pasco-Hernando responded with six in the top of the ninth to put the game away.
Jordan Thomas and Acevedo each finished with two hits and a run scored in the loss. Acevedo added an RBI. Clay Thompson scored four runs for the Bobcats. Fano Cruz had three RBIs for Pasco-Hernando.
Though he took the loss, starting pitcher
Gavin Dicks kept the Eagles in the game. Dicks allowed four runs, three earned, on just two hits in five innings. After
Jason Sawyer worked a scoreless sixth, the Bobcats got to the Polk State bullpen for nine runs over the final three innings.
Now losers of three straight, Polk State will look for its first road win on Tuesday when it travels to St. Johns River State College. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
